A "Different" Gym

 A "DIFFERENT" KIND OF GYM

In the last few weeks I've switched over from going to 24 Hour fitness to a new "community" gym that's right down the street from me.

It's called HealthQ-Nutrition.  A Facebook friend of mine invited me in to take a look at it after moving down the street and I instantly fell in love the second I stepped in for a tour.

HealthQ is a "different" gym and training facility that not only provides top-notch fitness, personal training, and exercise classes, but that also incorporates aspects of nutrition into your program to help you see results quickly and efficiently. They aren't just your typical gym either, it's a community of people coming together to work TOGETHER to achieve everyone's goals.

When I stepped into HealthQ to attend my first boot-camp session, I was so surprised at how much everyone was supporting each other and cheering each other on - I'd never seen that at any other gym before.

It truly is a community. There is no room for people who judge other people in the gym - everyone is incredibly welcoming and it really does become a family.

WHAT HEALTHQ IS ABOUT
HealthQ functions differently that a normal gym too... Whereas with a regular gym, like 24 Hour Fitness, you pay a membership fee each month, workout at your own pace, whether your push yourself or not.. and if you decide to fork out tons of money to hire a personal trainer so that you can actually see the results of the work you've been putting in, they rarely, if ever mention your nutrition. HealthQ is actually a FREE gym, their motto is "80% Nutrition, 20% Fitness", where they provide the 20% fitness for FREE. They also provide FREE fitness evaluations and FREE personal training and fitness classes to their clients.

They have some of the best coaches from all across the country, professional athletes, championship college sports players, and personal trainers who've been in the industry for 20+ years.

Now, you may be wondering, a free gym? No way that's not possible, it's a scam, right? Well that's what I thought when I went in for a tour of the facility for the first time. But it's not, it really is the most supportive group of industry professionals who love what they do and really want to help people reach their fitness and health goals. Well, how does the gym make money, you ask?

HOW IT WORKS
People don't realize how much of their nutrition plays into their overall fitness... (not just how big or small someone may look but also the quality and health of their body on the inside).   HealthQ works with one of the fastest growing and biggest nutrition companies in the world, Herbalife, to provide their clients with top of the line nutrition and sports supplements. Because nutrition is so important to the health of an individual, clients do not have to pay for their training sessions, rather, they pay for their nutrition programs and products, how ever much, or little, they decide to purchase.

The coaches and trainers recommend products based on the health and fitness of each client, and tailor their programs for the client to be able to easily attain their goals.

WHY IT WORKS
Like I've mentioned in previous posts, when people are confined to only working out on their own and don't know the importance of their nutrition and diet in the health, then they don't see results they want. They punch in hour after hour in the gym and wonder why they aren't seeing any results, and eventually, they give up and they quit.

HealthQ Nutrition hold each individual accountable for their own success. Each client has a health and wellness coach that can answer any of their fitness and nutrition questions. They hold group fitness classes and bootcamps (that benefit each client at any fitness level) every day of the week, in the early mornings and evenings to accommodate those who have full time jobs and other commitments. It's a team effort and as long as a client attends sessions (which are FREE) and follows their customized nutrition plan, they will see results.

HealthQ Nutrition also plans community events so that everyone isn't just confined to the gym space. They organize hikes, trips, nutrition classes, meal prepping classes, business opportunity meetings and motivational talks, weekend outings (etc.) which really form a community. You are not only getting results, but making friends, and ultimately family along the way.

I have never been so happy to be a part of something so positive in my entire life.

The TYPICAL Gym Atmosphere

When I normally think of going to the gym I think of walking into 24 Hour Fitness that I pay for monthly, plugging in my head phones, turning up my music so I can't hear anything that's going on around me, hopping on the eliptical and half-assing a workout, trying to look good in front of the douchey meat heads who are lifting weights across the gym.

How often do you go to the gym and strike up a conversation with the person whose running on the treadmill next to you? Do you meet people that you hang out with after wards and grab dinner? Rarely... if ever. Not in my experiences, however.

I go in, talk to no one, do my thing, and leave.

I thought that was how all gyms were.

I would go to the gym just about 4 times per week, burn about 700-900 calories per workout, get bored and leave and wonder why I wasn't seeing any results.

I thought that because I was working out, it meant that I could eat "normal..." and by "normal" I guess I meant Mac-N-Cheese a few nights a week, Oreos every night for dessert and pasta for more than one meal a day. I thought that if I was working out, I was "allowed" to eat whatever I wanted.

At the time I worked at a sports bar in Denver where they required all of the girls bartenders/servers/cocktailers to be "fit."  I was even told at one point that I needed to hit the gym because my legs weren't tone enough. Of course this is a big hit to one's self concsious and I actually decided to try doing personal trainig through 24 hour fitness, thinking that I could get results really quickly.

$500 and a lot of sweat later, I still wasn't seeing results and I couldn't figure out why. I would walk out of personal training about ready to keel over and die twice a week, and was sore in between those days, so why the heck wasn't I seeing a difference?

-  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -  -

What I have learned since beginning my fitness journey is that you can't expect to see changes when you're not doing anything differently. I was still eating the same way (terribly) and I was working out extra hard trying to get into shape. I was just wasting my time.

People don't realize how much of their fitness, and ultimately their image, lies in their nutrition and what they're putting into their bodies.

People think they can outwork their diet. You may see little results here are there, but if your body isn't getting what it needs nutritionally, then you will not see the results you should be seeing, at the pace you should be seeing them.  It's all about meeting your calorie and protein goals each day.

So I've set out on a journey to stop make excuses to get out of something that is too hard, stop hoping for results without actually putting in the work to get results, and stop wishing and just start doing.

MY BEGINNING STATS

WEIGHT: 121.2
BMI: 20.2
BODY FAT %: 26.5
MUSCLE %: 30.6
VISCERAL: 3
RMR: 1262
BODY AGE: 18

BMI (Body Mass Index) - Contrasts your height to your weight to approximate body fat amount
RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) - How many calories you burn doing absolutely nothing
VISCERAL FAT - Fat surrounding your organs

My Journey

This a fitness journey. An overdue goal and a life changing opportunity.

I've always wanted to do something like this - do something so life changing with fitness... and well, I got close a couple times, but I never made that final step... that huge decision to take back my life and control it... and stop letting it control me.

As a kid I was never obese or over weight, in fact I was always right where I was supposed to be for my age group... but there was something missing...
My friends in school knew me as being somewhat self conscious... even though I wasn't fat, I definitely had self-image issues and low self esteem. I would never be caught dead in a swimsuit in front of ANYONE... or even short shorts and a tank top for that matter... I wanted to be fit and in shape, but didn't know how to get there.
I wanted to be proud of my body and have confidence in how I looked... but for some reason I didn't want it ENOUGH to go out and chase it... I thought I did, but when it came to hitting the gym or actually making time and pushing myself, I found "better" things to do. I never made my body a priority. I wanted results without putting in any work. And I quickly found out that nothing happens when you're sitting back and simply wishing for it. You have to go out and make things happen.

So here's to all of you who want to change your lives but don't know how.
Here's to all of you who want to make a positive difference in someone else's life.
Here's to all of you who want something but don't think you can get there.

I'm going to get there just to show you that you can too.

It may have taken me 5+ years to finally get my ass in gear, but there's no better time than the present to start.

Let's make it happen.

I'm going to share fitness tips, challenges, photos, recipes, nutrition and overall wellness information with you.

This is going to be a process, but in the end, it'll all be worth it.
